Newgrounds Musician Interviews: IoTheEternal

Posted by Belthagor - July 10th, 2018

I am glad you decided to fill out this interview IoTheEternal, and let us know more about yourself.

How did you make up your username?

My old username chronamut is a combination of 2 primoridial gods - chronos and bahamut. Also Chronepsis and Bahamut in dragonlance/d&d, the pantheon gods of good and neutrality, elves and humans. My current username, IoTheEternal, is Io, the father of Bahamut, and the brother of Chronepsis. Also a moon of jupiter, and a sire of many of the greek gods children. The former was meant to be a name of power that people would iconically remember. The second is meant to represent the fatherly role I played on newgrounds as one of the first musicians in the audio portal.

Is there a certain message you want to give your audience in your works?

My music was always meant to be relaxing and ethereal - calming and heavenly. I wanted to give people a feeling - thus my music doesn't really have a set style - just an iconic feel that is "chronamut". My art the same thing. I like dragons and anime a lot, as well as fractals, as well as pumpkin carving. I won many pumpkin carving competitions on newgrounds back in the day. My current account works to improve upon my old existing work, as well as to promote my artist website and soundcloud pages etc. My old account was more rough hewen while my new account is meant to be more polished.

Would you have any difficulty composing a certain type of music or genre?

I would have difficulty composing dubstep or d&b - dubstep especialyl as I don't really consider it music - thus it would be hard for me to make something I don't respect as a musical genre. It's not that I CAN'T do it - but my principles wouldn't allow me to do it - I am a man that is largely ruled by his principles. I have done many different genres over the years though.

What programs/instruments/other things do you use?

For my music I use Fl studio for composition, and cool edit pro for mastering/post production. I have also used propellorhead reason and even milkytracker to make music in the past. For my art I use photoshop, scanning software as well as apophysis, and of course I also use traditional mediums like paints and watercolours

Do you see music as a career?

I do not see music as my career, but only something I do on the side. Same with my art.

Are you working on anything right now? Tell us about it.

I am constantly working on things. Mostly however I am resubmitting all my old music remastered - it's something I have been meaning to do for a long time as a lot of the stuff I made in 2003 and 2004 was largely unmastered and very rough - so some of the songs are being remastered to be listenable for the first time. I also add some bg elements to them to give them more dimension. It will be a while before I make anything new as I literally have hundreds of works to fix first.

Other comments? (This section is for anything else you would want to write)

I would just like to thank all of the fans that stuck with me over the years. I was one of the first musicians in the portal in 2003, along with other great musicians like dreamscaper, paragonx9, evil-dog and others. The audio portal sort of formed around us and we kept the charts clean and orderly, gave people standards to aspire to, and all was good. 4 years ago some unfortunate events went down and I was forced to make a new account. I have gotten over it even though my feelinsg towards the staff remain mercurial, but I am looking forward. However because a lot of the community formed around me my absence for the past 4 years has seemed to have caused a vacuum both in the audio forums and the audio portal. The charts sort of grew wild and the community scattered. Through my own audio portal discord room I have slowly been pulling all the old musicians back together and cleaning up the portal, re-teaching people how to master properly and improve their music, and offering solutions to improve the audio portal, as changes were made that frankly crippled it. I hope to see the portal rise back to the level that it once was, and that we can all move forward and have the fun we all used to have, and remember that newgrounds is about fun, and that people should be respected and treated as people, not something to be managed and controlled.
And that's it for me - thanks for the interview!
